Muhurat · Vivah
Vivah Muhurat
The most auspicious days for a Hindu wedding over the next 90 days, each scored 0-100 with an excellent/good/acceptable/cautious verdict.
Favourable nakshatras
Rohini, Mrigashira, Magha, Uttara-Phalguni, Hasta, Swati, Anuradha, Moola, Uttara-Ashadha, Uttara-Bhadrapada, Revati.
Nakshatras to avoid
Bharani, Krittika, Ardra, Ashlesha, Vishakha, Jyeshtha and Shatabhisha are traditionally avoided for a wedding.
Weekday rule
Tuesday is generally avoided; Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are considered most favourable.
Other things to note
- Rikta tithis (Chaturthi/Navami/Chaturdashi) and Amavasya are avoided for a wedding even if the nakshatra is otherwise favourable.
- Weddings are traditionally not held during Chaturmasa (Ashadha through Kartika) or Adhika Masa; Magha, Phalguna, Vaishakha and Jyeshtha are the classical auspicious months.
- The combustion (Tara-Asta) of Jupiter or Venus is a separate check that classical texts require; this tool scores the day itself, but ask your priest to confirm neither planet is combust in that window.

FAQ
Questions about vivah (marriage) muhurat
Does this tool factor in both partners’ birth charts?
No, this tool scores the day itself. For a day-picker that layers both partners’ Tara Bala and dasha overlap on top, use `/kundli-matching`.
Why aren’t weddings held during Chaturmasa?
Chaturmasa (Ashadha Shukla Ekadashi through Kartika Shukla Ekadashi) is traditionally read as Devashayana (the gods’ rest), so new auspicious undertakings, weddings included, are deferred to the next auspicious month.
How do I check for Jupiter/Venus combustion (Tara-Asta)?
Every panchang or priest maintains the combustion calendar; weddings are traditionally not held during those windows regardless of score. We are considering adding this check to the tool as a future upgrade.
Is picking an auspicious date enough on its own?
Picking the day is one part. The exact wedding time (lagna, Abhijit muhurat, choghadiya) is set by the priest at the venue; larger families finalise this in consultation with the pandit.
