FAQ

Questions about nakshatras

How many nakshatras are there?

There are 27 nakshatras in Vedic astrology. Each covers 13°20' of the zodiac and further divides into four padas of 3°20' each.

What is the difference between nakshatra and rashi?

Rashi divides the sky into 12 segments of 30° each, while nakshatra splits it into 27 finer segments of 13°20'. Nakshatra gives a more precise placement and is what Guna Milan uses.

How do I find my birth nakshatra?

You need your date of birth, exact birth time and place of birth. Enter these in the nakshatra calculator. The Moon's position at that moment determines your birth nakshatra and pada.

What does gana (deva, manushya, rakshasa) mean?

Every nakshatra belongs to one of three ganas: Deva (divine), Manushya (human), or Rakshasa (intense). Gana is the basis of the Gana koota in kundli matching and reflects temperament compatibility.
