Puja Vidhi

Satyanarayan, Griha Pravesh, Navratri, Diwali, Karva Chauth: the complete vidhi for every major puja, in one place. Each page carries the samagri list, ordered steps, the mantras needed at each step, and a list of common mistakes. Written for the generation that did not inherit these procedures from family.

More puja vidhis are being added. The most-searched procedures (Satyanarayan, Griha Pravesh, Diwali, Navratri, Rudrabhishek) are prioritised.

Common questions

Can these pujas be performed at home without a pandit? +

Yes: most household pujas (Satyanarayan, Diwali Lakshmi puja, Karva Chauth, Ganesh Chaturthi) can be performed by the head of the family. That is exactly what this page is written for. For major sanskaras (marriage, mundan, upanayana, a full griha-pravesh with havan), a pandit is better. If arranging one is hard, an online-pandit puja service is available.

What if a step is missed or done incorrectly? +

Every puja closes with the kshama-prarthana shloka: "Avahanam na janami...". That verse itself absolves the unintentional errors made anywhere in the procedure. If sincerity and bhava are right, small procedural mistakes are not considered serious.

Where do the samagri lists and steps here come from? +

The Devanagari mantras are public-domain authentic verses reproduced verbatim. The samagri lists, step descriptions, common-mistakes notes and modern-home adaptations are all written specifically for this site: never lifted from a source book. Quantities and sourcing suggestions are practical for a modern Indian urban household.
