Advice to tweak the spelling of a name is often based on the name number, or Naam Ank, a different tradition from naming by nakshatra. But how is that number actually worked out?
The Chaldean system
Indian numerology derives Naam Ank using the Chaldean system, where each letter gets a value between 1 and 8 (Chaldean never assigns 9 to a letter, since 9 is considered the number of completion). The values of every letter in the name are added up, then reduced to a single digit.
Naam Ank vs Mulank
Mulank comes from the date of birth and never changes. Naam Ank comes from the name, so changing the spelling can change the Naam Ank. That’s why some people adjust a name slightly to bring its Naam Ank closer to their Mulank or Bhagyank.
Find your Naam Ank
