What is Manglik Dosha?
In Vedic astrology, Manglik Dosha (also called Mangal Dosha, Kuja Dosha, or Bhauma Dosha) occurs when Mars is placed in certain specific houses of the birth chart.
These houses are: the 1st (Ascendant), 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th, and 12th house. When Mars occupies any of these positions, the person is called "Manglik".
About 40-50% of people have Mars in one of these houses, so it is very common. Being Manglik does not automatically mean marriage will be troubled. The severity depends on the sign, nakshatra, and aspects from other planets.
Which houses cause Manglik Dosha?
1st House (Ascendant)
Aggression in personality, potential for conflicts in married life.
2nd House
Impact on family life and speech, financial fluctuations.
4th House
Impact on domestic peace, tendency for frequent relocations or job changes.
7th House
Most direct impact on marriage and partnerships, disagreements with spouse.
8th House
Impact on longevity and shared assets, sudden changes.
12th House
Impact on bedroom happiness and expenditure, possibility of foreign travel/residence.
When is Manglik Dosha cancelled?
- • If both partners are Manglik, the dosha cancels out mutually.
- • Mars is in its own sign (Aries or Scorpio) or exalted sign (Capricorn).
- • Jupiter aspects Mars in the chart.
- • Mars is conjunct with benefic planets.
- • Some texts hold that the dosha weakens after the age of 28.
